Springfield police investigate shooting and home invasion incident

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department says it's investigating a report of a home invasion and shooting that happened early Friday morning.

Springfield police say officers were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of East Stuart Street at about 2:20 a.m. in regards to the reports.  Upon arriving, officers say they found one man outside of the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the torso.  The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  Police say a second man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso.  Authorities say both individuals are expected to survive their injuries.

According to a news release from Springfield police, the shooting victims are believed to be suspects in the alleged home invasion at the same residence.  Springfield police say the individuals were shot by an armed homeowner who was defending himself, and that multiple shots were fired in the home and several firearms were recovered at the scene.
