Decatur officials introducing Neighborhood Inspections fine forgiveness program

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - Decatur officials say they will launch a fine forgiveness program for the city's Neighborhood Inspections initiative on July 21.

Officials say this new program will allow first-time code violators the chance to avoid paying a fine if the violation is corrected before the court date or by the date ordered by the judge or hearing officer.  Code violations that will be included in this program include trash and debris, storage of machinery, zoning violations, and housing code violations.

Additionally, officials say fines for a weeds and tall grass violation will be waived for first-time offenders, but only if the person cited is a first-time offender and correct the violation.  Fines not issued by the City's Neighborhood Inspections Division will not be eligible for this program.
