UPDATE: 1 dead in single-vehicle crash on I-74

UPDATE – Authorities have identified the driver of the vehicle as 56-year-old David Roth of Louisville, Kentucky.

According to our sister station within our company WDRB based in Louisville, Roth is the general director of the Kentucky Opera. He entered the position starting in 2006.

WDRB also reports Roth was returning from a business trip in Des Moines and visiting his family in Wisconsin.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police. More information will be released as it becomes available.

PIATT COUNTY - The Illinois State Police has announced that one person died in single-vehicle crash on Interstate 74 Sunday night.

Authorities say the crash happened at about 8:58 p.m. near milepost 164.2 on I-74.  According to the preliminary investigation, a 2014 Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway to the right, impacted the ditch, became airborne, landed back in the same ditch, and eventually struck a tree head on.

Police say the driver of the vehicle received CPR at the scene and was transported to Carle Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead.  Authorities have not released the identity of the driver.

This incident is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.  We will provide updates as they become available.
