UPDATE: VA Secretary to speak at Vietnam Veterans National Convention

UPDATE - Department of Veterans Affairs officials say Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald will make an appearance at the Vietnam Veterans of America National Convention on July 24.

Officials say McDonald is scheduled to speak to attendees at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Hall of the Prairie Capital Convention Center.  WAND will provide more details on McDonald's visit as they become available.


SPRINGFIELD - Vietnam veterans from across the country will gather in Springfield this week for the annual Vietnam Veterans of America National Convention.

The convention will last from July 21 through July 25, and will be held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.  More than 800 delegates from VVA chapters throughout the country are expected to be in attendance.

Highlights for this event include a "Welcome Home Party," a morning POW/MIA Ceremony, and a vendors' Veterans Mall.  Officials say the convention is being held in Springfield as a result of sales efforts of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.
