City to hold Funeral Procession in Honor of Mayor McElroy

DECATUR – City of Decatur officials report there will be a funeral procession honoring Mayor Mike McElroy immediately following July 23’s Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial.

Mass will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 23 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church located at 3850 Lourdes Drive in Decatur.

Following the funeral, procession will travel from the church to points in Downtown Decatur. The procession route is as follows: from Our Lady of Lourdes east on Mound Road to Main Street / U.S. 51 South; south on Main Street to William Street; east on William Street to the Decatur Civic Center drive; north along the drive and around the World War II Veterans Memorial in front of the Decatur Civic Center.

The Civic Center drive, Gary K. Anderson Plaza, East North Street from Jackson Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and the 400 block of North Jackson Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 AM until late afternoon.

Decatur Civic Center visitors should use parking along Franklin Street and other area spaces that are not reserved for permit holders during the day on July 23.
