Springfield High School students hosting special fundraising event

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield Public Schools officials say Springfield High School's Historical Game Club will host a special fundraising event on July 25, 2015.

This special event is called "Capitol Con," or "Capcon" for short, and will be held in the Springfield High School Commons from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  It features family games, board games, collectible card games, and historical games, with proceeds benefiting the Springfield High School World War II Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The memorial fund was named in honor of 76 Springfield High School graduates who lost their lives in World War II.  Each year, the scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who shows a strong interest in World War II history.

This year's event is a collaborative effort between the Historical Game Club, local HMGS and CITW Members, Die Hard Games, and other local gaming clubs and organizations.  The cost to attend this event is $5, or a donation to the memorial fund, and covers a full day of gaming.  Tournaments will also have an additional fee.
