Red Cross offers assistance to communities affected by July 16 tornadoes

PEORIA - Red Cross officials say they continue to offer support to Port Byron, Cameron, and Delavan residents who were impacted by the July 16 tornadoes.

Officials say Red Cross caseworkers will be meeting with residents over the next couple of weeks to assess individual needs and helping to develop recovery plans.  Volunteers have remained in the affected communities since the tornadoes to provide help, supplies, and hope to displaced and impacted residents.

Red Cross officials say they have provided 16,000 meals, 31,000 snacks, 597 overnight stays in shelters, 475 comfort kits, more than 900 clean-up kits, and more than 8,900 bulk items to individuals affected by these storms.  According American Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region CEO Betsy Pratt, the affected communities have made a good amount of progress in the last week.
