Temporary Stop Signs Required

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - Under a new law signed by Governor Bruce Rauner, the Illinois Department of Transportation is now required to immediately put up temporary stop signs whenever an existing stop sign is destroyed or damaged.

Officials say the law is part of an effort to save lives.  Governor Bruce Rauner signed the bill into law this week.

The legislation was inspired by a recent fatal accident near the town of Waverly.  IDOT officials say these practices are already recommended by the department in its manual, and that the new law ensures that the temporary stop signs will be put into place.
