RANTOUL - The Rantoul Police Department says one man has been arrested in connection with shooting incidents that happened on July 23, 2015 and December 31, 2014.

Rantoul police say the Champaign County METRO SWAT Team executed a search warrant on a home in the 1300 block of Abrah Drive in Rantoul.  During the search, officers located a loaded handgun and multiple rounds of ammunition, and arrested a resident, identified as Ghulam Thomas, 31.

According to Rantoul police, officers determined the firearm found at the residence was used in a shooting at the Rantoul Pizza Pub on July 23.  Officers say one male victim was shot during this incident, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.  Rantoul police say Thomas was charged with allegedly possessing the firearm on this night, but not with the actual shooting.  This incident is still under investigation.

Rantoul police also say Thomas was charged with allegedly firing a gun at an incident that happened in the 600 block of Autumn Fields Lane in Rantoul on December 31, 2014.  Authorities say Thomas allegedly admitted to shooting rounds with the recovered firearm during the New Year's Eve incident.  No injuries were reported.

Thomas currently faces preliminary charges of aggravated unlawful use/possession of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.  If you have any information on the above incidents, you are asked to call Champaign County Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.
