Pana Man Arrested After 2 Vehicle Crash

CHRISTIAN COUNTY – Illinois State Police say they responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 29 a half mile south of Christian County Road 700 East at 9:02 AM the morning of July 25.

The preliminary investigation says a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling southbound on Route 29 near Christian County Road 700 East when it failed to stopped and hit a 2006 Mack truck tractor semi-trailer. The Mack truck was stopped at the beginning of a construction zone at the location when the Chrysler struck the rear of the truck.

The driver of the Chrysler has been identified as 28-year-old Austin Casner of Pana, Illinois. Casner was air lifted to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities say he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 48-year-old Dorman Akers of Witt, Illinois. Akers was not injured in the crash.

Route 29 was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours as a result of the crash. This investigation is ongoing by the Illinois State Police of District 9.
