Spirit of Silas Memorial Ends in Dance

DECATUR – Dancing to end the fight against cancer – the last day of the weekend long Spirit of Silas memorial brought out hundreds to step in the name of Silas.

After a three day long event for the late Silas Martin who died in December of brain cancer, a community biking event offered inspiration to the area.

Organizers hosted a bike ride Sunday afternoon that toured all over central Illinois and made its way back to Woody's bar where the last leg of the fundraiser broke out in dance.

Participants recorded a dance off for Ellen DeGeneres' #justkeepdancing challenge led by choreographer Benjamin W.H. Garrett.

Garrett told WAND’s Megan O’Dell, "Ellen DeGeneres has the just keep dancing challenge for kids against cancer in hopes that we can film this and send it to her and she'll show it on television."

Not just gaining notoriety but the potential for Silas' choice charity Alex's Lemonade stand could receive $50,000 to fund childhood cancer research.
