Springfield Police investigate shooting incident

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department says one person was injured in a shooting incident that happened Sunday night.

Springfield police say officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Tyrone Drive at about 9:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.  Upon arriving, officers say they found a 28-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to his left side.  

Springfield police say officers allegedly found suspected illegal drugs at the scene and inside the residence, and that the execution of a search warrant resulted in Springfield Police officers finding a handgun, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia inside the residence.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he underwent surgery.  The victim is currently in the ICU, and is expected to survive his injury.

Springfield police say there is no more information available at this time, and that the investigation into this incident will continue.  We will provide updates as they become available.
