Free school physical events offered to Springfield Public School District 186 students

SPRINGFIELD - Keep Kids in School Coalition officials say they will offer free physicals for Springfield Public School District 186 students in need in August and September.

School District officials say physicals are required for students entering pre-K, kindergarten, sixth grade, and ninth grade, as well as students who are new to District 186.  Coalition officials say they hope to help families with District 186 students become compliant with the medical needs for their grade.  According to District 186 School Board President Mike Zimmers, more than 700 students in District 186 were excluded from school in 2013 due to missing physicals and/or immunizations.

Officials say no appointments are necessary for these events, and that a nominal charge for immunizations will be billed to the parent's or guardian's insurance.  We have included a list of events offering free physicals below:

- August 10, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Washington Middle School, 2300 E. Jackson St. 
Jefferson Middle School, 3001 Allis St.
Grant Middle School, 1800 W. Monroe St.

- August 11, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Jefferson Middle School
Washington Middle School
Grant Middle School

- August 15, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Springfield High School, 101 S. Lewis St.

- September 3, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Sangamon County Department of Public Health, 2833, S. Grand Ave. East.
