PESOTUM - Illinois State Police officials have announced that a Rantoul man has been arrested on several drug and gun-related charges.

Authorities say on July 27 at about 10:26 a.m., an Illinois State Police Trooper found a vehicle parked on the right shoulder on I-57 southbound at mile post 241.  The trooper says he saw an individual outside of the vehicle, and when he approached, the individual allegedly scrambled back into the vehicle in a suspicious manner.

Illinois State Police say the individual stated he needed assistance and asked for a ride.  Police also say the individual gave his consent for the trooper to conduct a "pat down" before entering the trooper's squad car, during which the trooper allegedly found a loaded magazine.  Authorities say a subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the trooper allegedly finding a .380 caliber handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, drug paraphernalia, and cannabis.

The individual, identified as Aaron Jake, 26, was arrested and taken to Champaign County Jail.  Jake faces preliminary charges of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a FOID Card, possession of ammunition without a FOID Card, defacing ID on a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, and driving on a revoked license.

We will provide more details as they become available.
