Hot Times In Old Decatur Town

Decatur – High temperatures and humidity scorched central Illinois on Tuesday.  In Decatur the high for the day hit 92.  Springfield reached 95 while Taylorville and Shelbyville both touched 90.

“It cools you down,” a young swimmer told WAND’s Doug Wolfe at the Fairview Park pool in Decatur.

Kids were on line when the pool opened at noon ready to jump in.  For many this is already their second trip to the pool this week.
“It feels good going off the diving board,” stated one boy.  “The water is nice and cold.”

At Decatur Detail, an auto detailing shop, there is no air conditioning in the building as workers spent the day with garage doors open.
“We’ve got air conditioning in the office.  They just stop by there when they have to,” said Decatur Detail owner Carl “CJ” Jones.  “Just doing what you have to do to stay cool.”

Temperatures are expected to cool off later this week.
