ICC to hold public forum on Grain Belt Express proposal

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Commerce Commission officials say they will hold the third of three public forums on Clean Line Energy's proposed Grain Belt Express transmission line on July 29.

Officials say the third public forum will be held at the Gerald R. Forsythe Performing Arts Center in Marshall Junior High School in Marshall at 4:00 p.m.  The forums are part of an effort to reach out to Illinois residents who would be directly affected by the construction of the proposed transmission line.

Under the proposal, the Grain Belt Express would begin construction in 2017, and would run through Pike, Scott, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Christian, Shelby, Cumberland, and Clark Counties.  Clean Line Energy is asking for a "certificate of public convenience and necessity" from the ICC for the 780-mile long line.

The forum will have two parts; the first will be an opportunity for attendees to enter questions and comments into the record, and the second part will be an informal question and answer session with ICC staff.
