Stripmasters At 25

Posted:

Decatur – It started with a $10,000 loan and a dream.  Today, Stripmasters in Decatur is celebrating 25 years in business.

“I didn’t have the credit to do anything else,” Stripmasters President Mark Scranton told WAND’s Doug Wolfe.  “So I borrowed $10,000 for start-up money and I signed a lease on a piece of equipment to get myself started in business.”

Stripmasters provides a number of services for businesses including sandblasting, dry ice blasting and powder coating.  Customers are located in Illinois and throughout the Midwest.  They include Caterpillar, ADM and Union Iron in Decatur.

“He’s invested a tremendous amount of money personally in making this happen and it’s a real success story and we’re proud of him,” said Ryan McCrady of the Economic Development Corporation.  “Having a business like Stripmasters that we can nurture here in Decatur that we can help grow and we can support locally is a big benefit to our economy.”

Stripmasters invested nearly $2 million for an expansion about 4 years ago.  It currently employs 25 people.
