SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department is continuing its investigation into the death of a teen on the city's northeast side on July 30.

Springfield police say officers responded to a home in the 800 block of South 23rd Street at about 3:30 p.m. for a report of a person who had been shot.  Upon arriving, officers found a 17-year-old male who had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.  The teen was declared deceased at the scene.

Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards says the teen was identified as Juwan Kincade.  Edwards also says preliminary autopsy results reveal that Kincade died from the gunshot wound, and that the wound is consistent with a homicide.

This incident is under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner's Office.  We will provide updates as they become available.
