SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Police Department says two people been arrested in connection with a report of shots fired Sunday night.

Springfield police say officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2200 block of East Cedar Street at about 8:30 p.m.  Upon arriving, officers says they saw a vehicle traveling from the scene, and conducted a traffic stop on it at Pope and South Grand.

During the traffic stop, Springfield police say the officers searched the vehicle, revealing a loaded handgun.  Police say a 15-year-old juvenile was arrested for possessing the gun, and was later released to his mother.  Authorities say there is no evidence the found weapon was fired during the incident.

Springfield police also say officers checked on another possible suspect in this shooting incident in the 1900 block of Taylor Street.  The officers say they made contact with an individual named Marquise Stennis, and a search of the residence revealed a handgun hidden on a covered porch.  Springfield police also say Stennis was allegedly found to be illegally in possession of prescription medications.

Stennis was taken into custody on preliminary charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.  We will provide more details as they become available.
