Sangamon Reclaimed Honors History and Veterans

SPRINGFIELD – Repurposing 100-year-old wood from American-made barns by the hands of American-made heroes.

Sangamon Reclaimed is one of the only wood reclaiming businesses in the area.

Owner Brian Frieze wanted to tap into this market that has high popularity in metropolitan areas, but not in central Illinois. Repurposing wood from Midwestern barns has already taken off, and the company has completed multiple residential and commercial projects.

Frieze said, "Now we do retail. We sell raw material. We do furniture commercial installs, so we do a full circle. We take the barn from dismantling it to all the way to installs to building furniture and kitchen tables and things like that."

They are creating a profit from preserving a staple in American history. Frieze also employs all firemen. Many of them served in the military another mission for the business.

Frieze began Flags for our Heroes in May, and every month the business creates wooden flags with a portion of the profit going to military or first responders organizations.

Frieze explains, "Well, when I got out of the military I wanted to give back to veterans, so we started our flags for heroes program. They became really popular with veterans and first responders."

Creating works of art with the efforts of America's heroes.
