SPRINGFIELD – The State of Illinois will be introducing an Ag Ambassador program to help promote Illinois agriculture.

Director Philip Nelson announced on Thursday, August 6 that Evelyn Brandt-Thomas and Glen Brandt will serve as the state’s inaugural Ag Ambassadors. They will primarily be utilized during the Illinois State Fair and the DuQuoin State Fair. These roles will deal with promotion of agriculture, as well as educating the public.

An Ag Ambassador will be selected to attend events throughout the year with the Director and State Fair Manager. These events include, but are not limited to, the state fair parades, Ag Day Breakfast, Governor’s Sale of Champions and more.

Ambassadors will be selected yearly by the Director of Agriculture, prior to the Illinois State Fair. They must be vested in the agriculture community, an Illinois resident, involved in the community and have a history in agriculture.

This year’s ambassadors are brother and sister Glen and Evelyn Brandt who founded the Sangamon County agribusiness BRANDT. Director Philip Nelson says the Brandts and their business are a “true Illinois agriculture success story.”
