Two Hospitalized after accident on I-70

EFFINGHAM - Two people were taken to the hospital after a tow truck crashed into a semi.

Police say it happened on I-70 west bound near milepost 100, in Effingham just before 10:00 Thursday night. The Illinois State Patrol reports the tow truck, driven by Derek McWhorter of Vandalia and the semi trailer, driven by Clifford Massey of Muskogee, Oklahoma were traveling west on I-70 when an unidentified passenger car cut in front of the semi while entering a construction zone. The semi truck driver locked his brakes in time to avoid striking the vehicle, However, the tow truck driver was unable to stop in time and ran into the back of the semi truck. A passenger in the tow truck, and the tow truck driver were transported to St. Antony's Hospital for treatment.

Mcwhorter was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
