LAWRENCE COUNTY—Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that left one individual dead in Lawrence County Sunday night.

A driver was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 near IL Rte. 33 around 9 PM, when a speeding car that was reported stolen earlier in the day in Indiana approached. The stolen vehicle rear-ended the driver, who was then ejected during the crash.

The ejected driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the stolen car, Lonnie Hill, 37, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.  Authorities identified the ejected driver as Kermit Ingram, 64.

Hill has been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid crash and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit completed a crash reconstruction.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Lawrence County Coroner.
