Springfield Fire Department HMR Team participating in training exercise

Posted: Updated:

CURRAN - The Springfield Fire Department has announced that its Hazardous Materials Response Team will host a training exercise at a grain elevator in Curran Monday afternoon.

SFD officials say they will be joined by Sangamon Valley Local Emergency Planning Committee members during this exercise.  During this event, HMRT members will be using a special alcohol-resistant foam at a railroad setting in a remote location in order to test their response to an ethanol fire.

Officials say SFD HMRT members can be deployed statewide for chemical emergency response, and that the team is one of 40 Mutual Aid Box Alarm System hazardous material teams in Illinois.  We will provide more details as they become available.
