ISP officials reminding motorists to use caution in school zones

EFFINGHAM - As the new school year draws closer, Illinois State Police are reminding motorists to be aware of increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic around schools.

Authorities say motorists need to watch out for children walking and riding bicycles to school, as well as children quickly appearing from between parked cars.  Additionally, motorists will also need to pay attention to slowing and stopped school buses.

ISP officials advise citizens to plan extra travel time, as delays could be expected due to the increase in traffic.  Motorists are also reminded to obey all posted speed limits in school zones while children are present, and pedestrians have the right-of-way in a crosswalk.
