Grow Decatur Hosting Town Hall Meetings

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – Grow Decatur announces it will hosting two town hall meetings geared toward engaging a more diverse audience.

Grow Decatur works to improve the overall quality of the community by connecting community members with employment resources and creating more quality jobs.

The organization says it is adding these additional meetings to gather input and feedback from the African-American community. Previous meetings were held in May and June 2015, but Grow Decatur felt that even though the meetings were well attended that they did not fully represent the “diverse make-up of the our community.”

A release from the organization states: “It is important the community is fully represented and has the opportunity to share in this process.”

It is noted these meetings are open to any interested citizen to attend despite being geared toward the African-American community.

Grow Decatur leadership team member Stacey Young says, “While there are many positive opportunities on the horizon for our city, we think it is important to step back and review what has been achieved and what work needs to continue to happen in order to move our community forward.”

These sessions will take place at the Boys and Girls Club at 859 North Jasper Street. The first meeting will be on August 14 at 11:30 AM. The second meeting will follow on August 18 at 5:30 PM.

Both sessions will last 90 minutes, and Ameren will be providing refreshments.
