Champaign officials promoting cleanliness during Campus Move In-Out Weeks

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN - In an attempt to prevent large accumulations of trash and overflowing dumpsters near the University of Illinois campus, Champaign Neighborhood Code Compliance Staff officials say they will be increasing enforcement throughout the area.

Officials say during the weeks of August 17 and 24, individuals with trash on their property will be given notices to remove the trash in a short amount of time.  If the individual fails to remove the trash in a timely manner, city crews will remove the trash and bill the owner for all costs involved, including a $100 administrative fee.

Officials are encouraging citizens to participate in the Campus Move In-Out "Feed the Thing" event, during which they can dispose of recyclable cardboard, resulting in more space in dumpsters for other waste items.  Additionally, cardboard collection containers will be placed throughout the area from August 14 through August 24 for people to dispose of recyclable cardboard.
