Decatur organizations hosting event to benefit first-year college students

DECATUR - The Decatur Black Chamber of Commerce, Decatur Township, and Rebirth Decatur are teaming up to host an event to benefit first-year college students on August 12.

Officials say a "Scholar Trunk Drive" will be held at 859 North Jasper Street from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Citizens are encouraged to donate one or two of the following items to help students in need:

- Bath Towels
- Face Towels 
- Hangers 
- Laundry Hampers 
- Small Trash Cans
- Shower Caddy
- Alarms Clocks
- Blankets
- Bowls
- Cups or Tumblers
- Toilet Paper
- Cleaning Supplies 

Officials also say the first-year college students will be recognized from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Food and entertainment will be available, and the students will have an opportunity to reveal which school they have chose to attend, as well as their major.
