Illinois State Fair officials release useful information for fairgoers

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Fair officials have released several pieces of information designed to help keep fairgoers safe while they have fun this year.

Officials say they are reminding citizens to be alert of weather announcements made on the fairgrounds, and to move to designated facilities in case severe weather approaches.  Officials also say they are working with the National Weather Service and Illinois State Police to deliver weather updates throughout the event.  In the event of severe weather, fairgoers will be instructed to go to one of 170 buildings designated as shelter for thunderstorms or tornadoes.

In addition, state fair officials are reminding fairgoers that several cooling stations will be available throughout the event.  We've included a list of designated cooling stations below:

- Artisans Building
- Emmerson Building
- Hobbies, Arts, and Crafts Building
- Illinois Building
- Illinois Fire Museum
- Kids Korner
- Orr Building

The First Aid Tent will be located in the Emmerson Building Annex, and the Lost and Found Children's Center will be located south of the Grandstand on Grandstand Avenue.  The First Aid Tent will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. daily, and the Children's Center is open during regular fair hours every day.

Fair officials are also reminding citizens that if you need assistance in an emergency during the event to find the nearest Illinois State Police Trooper, stop at the Illinois State Police Headquarters on Grandstand Avenue, or call 911.
