Online Resource Helps Keep Parents Up-To-Date

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is introducing a comprehensive online resource to keep parents and community members informed about the latest educational news and initiatives.

ISBE released its Hot Topics webpage on August 5 to help open a dialogue between educators and the public. The Hot Topics page can be found at http://isbe.net/hot-topics.htm.

This new site provides fact sheets, talking points and other materials to explain the news about state assessments, updated learning standards, educator evaluations and supports available to school districts to improve student achievement.

Some specific topics include: the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS), 2015-16 state assessments, progress and supports, teacher evaluations and Illinois learning standards.

State Superintendent of Education Tony Smith, Ph.D believes this new resource will improve the relationship between parents and the schools.

“Sharing information is key to schools building strong, positive relationships with parents and their communities as a whole. The resources on our Hot Topics webpage were developed to help start productive conversations among educators, families and the public about our ongoing education initiatives,” Smith explains.

Additional information on the State Superintendent’s key areas of focus can be found here.
