UPDATE: Effingham man arrested in connection with fatal crash

UPDATE: An Effingham man is being arraigned on DUI charges for an August 6 head-on crash.

32-year-old Richard Rodgers, Jr. is being held on a $1,000,000 bond for his involvement in a crash that left one Shelbyville man, Justin Baker, dead and a four-year-old still in the hospital. Rodgers was arrested by Macon County Deputies as he was released from the hospital on August 11.


DECATUR - The Macon County Sheriff's Office has announced that an Effingham man has been arrested in connection with a two-vehicle accident that left one dead and another seriously injured.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office says Richard Rodgers, Jr., 32, was arrested on August 11 after being released from a local hospital.  Authorities say Rodgers was involved in a head-on crash on East Andrews Street Road near Macon last Thursday.  Deputies say one man, Justin Baker, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a four-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Rodgers currently faces preliminary charges of aggravated driving under the influence involving a fatality and aggravated driving under the influence - drugs.  Rodgers is due back in court on August 12 for a bond hearing.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate this incident.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.
