State Fair Traffic Routes Going Into Effect

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Police are reminding residents and drivers to be aware of the Illinois State Fair traffic pattern as well as the Twilight Fair Parade route.

The Illinois State Fair traffic pattern will go into effect around the Fairgrounds Thursday, August 13 at 6 AM and remain in effect until August 24 at 6 AM. Traffic will move in a counter-clockwise direction and will be one way.

No traffic will be allowed west on Sangamon or south on Peoria Road from Taintor Road, start at Sangamon Avenue and Peoria Road. All traffic from Browning Road will be directed south on North 5th Street.

The annual Twilight Fair Parade will begin at 6 PM on August 13.

It will start at 9th Street and North Grand and will go north on 9th Street to 11th Street and on 11th Street into the Fairgrounds. 9th Street will be closed to traffic at 11 AM on Thursday between North Grand and Carpenter Streets. All cross streets from 8th to 10th Streets will be closed to through traffic to allow for parade staging. North Grand Avenue from 11th to 8th Streets will be closed to traffic at 4 PM.

The parade route will be closed off to all traffic starting at 5 PM. It will remain so until the parade route is cleaned by the City’s Public Works crews.

Drivers, residents and citizens are asked to use alternate travel routes and avoid the area while transiting through.
