DECATUR – Detectives from the Decatur Police Department and Macon County Sheriff’s Department report they seized cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate I-72.

Authorities pulled over a Mazda car registered out of Sullivan City, Texas near mile marker #133. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle claimed he was traveling from Sullivan City to Decatur, Illinois to “sell CD’s.”

Detective Houk’s K-9 Partner Malo was deployed and alerted authorities to the presence of illegal drug odor(s) coming from the vehicle. Detectives observed numerous indicators of criminal activity leading them to believe the driver had hidden it within the vehicle’s structure.

One of the other detectives on site deployed his K-9 Partner as well. Detective Larner’s K-9 Partner Neko conducted a search around the vehicle. Odors were suspected to be coming from the area of the front left bumper of the Mazda.

Upon disassembling the front of the Mazda, detectives located bundles of cocaine. An approximate weight of 4.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine was located within the bumper.

That is an approximate street value of $450,000 US Dollars.
