SPRINGFIELD - Thursday night marks the unofficial start of the Illinois State Fair.

The twilight parade kicks off the fun at 6:00 PM. The parade starts at 9th and North Grand Avenue and continues to Grandstand Avenue. WAND's Marianne Manko will be there to provide you with live reports.

"Preview night" is designed to give everyone a taste of the big event with free admission and discounted carnival rides. The fair in Springfield runs for 10 days.

Two U.S. Navy officers are serving as grand marshals. Governor Bruce Rauner announced the grand marshal selections Wednesday. They are Navy Commander Jessie Porter and Navy Lieutenant j.g. Darin Hess.

WAND News will be live at the fair the week of August 17.
