Doctor's note required to skip immunizations

SPRINGFIELD-- Parents who cite religious objections to have their children immunized will have to get a doctor's signature confirming they've been informed of the risks.

   A new law requires parents of children entering kindergarten and those entering sixth and ninth grades to provide a Certificates of Religious Exemption.

    It will have to have the signature of a doctor to opt out of vaccine requirements.

   The number of religious exemptions  reached more than 13-thousand for the 2013-2014 school year more than double since 2009.

  The Director of the State Department of Public Health says vaccines protect entire communities.
