Rauner signs medical marijuana extension

Chicago--Governor Bruce Rauner has used his veto authority to alter two bills regarding marijuana.

He has altered a bill to extend the state's medical marijuana program to a four month extension instead of two or more years.

Rauner also altered a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana.

He set the threshold at 10 grams and fines from 100 to 200 dollars instead of 15 grams and fines between 55 and 125 dollars.

Rauner in his veto letter says he supports the fundamental purpose of the bill but change must be made carefully and incrementally.

The bills now go back to lawmakers for approval.
