CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illini basketball officials say graduate transfer Khalid Lewis has signed with the team.
Illinois head coach John Groce made the announcement Friday, saying the 6-3 point guard from LaSalle in Philadelphia has signed a financial aid tender with the University of Illinois.
The Trenton, New Jersey-native average 6 points and 2 rebounds per game last season at LaSalle, appearing in all 33 games and starting in 18 games.
Groce says the Illini are "very fortunate" to have Lewis. The coach says Lewis will contribute his ability to "play point, handle the ball, score, make plays for others and defend."
