CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - A fiery crash shut down traffic on US 45 near Leverett Road after a driver was ejected from his car.
The crash took place just before 9:00 PM Friday night.
The Illinois State Police report Christopher Runyon was driving his silver Lincoln north on US 45 near Leverett Road when he drove off the ditch and struck a tree. As a result of striking he tree, the vehicle split into two sections and the rear half caught on fire. The driver was ejected and sustained non life-threatening injuries. All north and southbound lanes were closed but are now open.
Preliminary charges include: Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Driving While License Suspended, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, DUI Alcohol, Aggravated DUI (No Valid Driver’s License), Aggravated DUI (No Valid Proof of Insurance).
