Paul Sent Home from Europe, Suspended Indefinitely
Deauville, France -- Illinois forward Darius Paul was suspended indefinitely by head coach John Groce, the team announced Saturday morning.
Paul was with the team, though not playing in games, in their 10-day tour of Europe. No details of his suspension were released, but Groce said in a statement it was enough to send him home early.
“We have specific standards of behavior for every member of our team and when those expectations are not met, there are consequences," he said. "Darius is returning home immediately and we will evaluate his status with the team following our return to Champaign.”
Paul was attempting a comeback at Illinois, following a 2014 arrest and year-long suspension. A Western Michigan transfer, Paul found trouble during his sit-out season (2013-2014), reportedly failing two drug tests. He played the following year at Lamar State-Port Arthur, a junior college in Texas.
