Portion of North Jasper Street to be temporarily closed

UPDATE - Decatur officials say the road closure for the 500 block of North Jasper Street has been extended until approximately 3:00 p.m. to allow crews to work on the lighting.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.

DECATUR - Decatur officials say a portion of North Jasper Street will be temporarily closed as crews perform maintenance work on August 20.

Officials say the 500 block of North Jasper Street, also known as the Jasper Street Underpass, will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., weather permitting, as crews work on cleaning the catch basins and maintaining lighting.  Motorists are asked to follow the following detour route:

Southbound traffic:
- Turn right onto Grand Avenue
- Turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
- Turn left onto Eldorado Street
- Turn right onto Jasper Street

Northbound Traffic:
- Turn left onto Eldorado Street
- Turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
- Turn right onto Grand Avenue
- Turn left onto Jasper Street

Motorists are also asked to slow down and use caution around the work zone.  For more information, call (217) 875-4820.
