HSHS St. Anthony's offering classes for soon-to-be parents

Posted: Updated:

EFFINGHAM - HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital will offer a series of educational classes to help soon-to-be parents during the month of September.

Officials say the classes are designed for mothers and their support partners, and can have a positive effect in the birth experience.  Topics covered in these classes include signs of preterm labor, stages of labor, pain relief options, medical interventions, role of the support partner, breathing and relaxation techniques, birthing positions, cesarean birth, immediate and extended post-partum, and infant care and safety.

All first-time mothers are encouraged to register for classes at 20 weeks of pregnancy, and attend the series at 30 weeks.  Classes begin at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital auditorium, and will be held on September 1, 3, and 9.

This series is open to the public, but you must pre-register.  For more information, or to register, call (217) 347-1529.
