CHARLESTON - Eastern Illinois University officials say more than 110 positions at the institution will be eliminated in an effort to bring workforce more in line with current enrollment and funding.
According to EIU officials, 118 civil service and administrative and professional positions were identified for elimination. Fifty of those positions are currently vacated, meaning the decision will result in more than 60 employees being laid off.
Officials say affected employees are being notified by supervisors and Human Resources personnel, and that they will be given information on various resources available. Additionally, affected eligible employees have the option to replace another university employee in the same job classification with less seniority, in accordance with civil service guidelines.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
