Millikin Speaker Series Kicks Off September 3

DECATUR – The Millikin University Institute for Science Entrepreneurship announces it will begin its 2015 – 2016 Speaker Series on Thursday, September 3.

U.S. Congressman of the 13th Congressional District and Millikin alumnus Rodney Davis (R-Illinois) will appear as the keynote speaker at 7:30 PM in Lower Richards Treat University Center on Millikin’s campus.

Congressman Davis will discuss how federal legislation impacts citizens in central Illinois. Davis recently began his second term in Congress. He will soon serve on the House Agriculture Committee, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the House Administration Committee for the 114th Congress. The congressman is also now acting as the chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee focusing on Biotechnology, Horticulture and Research.

Millikin’s Science Entrepreneurship Speaker Series focuses on science entrepreneurship and how an increased emphasis on entrepreneurship can spur job creation and a healthier society.

Future dates and speakers are as follows:

  • Thursday, October 8: Jim Hawkins, Caterpillar Inc., Director of Mining Technology Enabled Solutions
  • Tuesday, November 10: Van Dukeman, First Busey Corporation, President and Chief Executive Officer
  • Thursday, December 3: TBA

All speaking engagements begin at 7:30 PM in the Lower Richards Treat University Center, located at 1184 West Main Street in Decatur. All engagements are free and open to the public.
