DECATUR – Some of the area’s strongest people will be competing in the Specific Performance Enhancement Center’s (SPEC) Central Illinois Strongman Classic Competition.
Strongman competition is the world’s premiere strength sport for professional and amateur athletes. The top three competitors in their weight class will go on to compete in the North American Strongman National Championships.
40 people, ages 17 – 50, will compete in the following six events: Yoke Carry, Harness Truck Pull, Tire Deadlift, Log Press and Atlas Stones.
Athletes will doing various displays of strength from pulling a vehicle to extreme lifting.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Children under 12 are welcome for free.
The Decatur Memorial Hospital venture will be holding the national qualifying event on Saturday, August 22 from 9 AM to 3 PM. It will take place in the SPEC gym, located at 2122 North 27th Street in Decatur.
