A Look at Changes for the State Farm Center

CHAMPAIGN – Completing phase 4 of 6 for the new Fighting Illini's State Farm Center.

A behind-the-scenes look showcased the $170 million dollar progress on a project that Senior Associate Director of Athletics Warren Hood says will only increase their event schedule and accommodations.

Hood said, "3 1/2 to 4 more months longer than what we have been operating in the past. It’s really important we get some type of entertainment and certain events in here to take advantage and time. Also, just having that extra flexibility here on the floor is going to give us an opportunity to get things. We were getting to the point where there were concerts that we couldn’t host here because we didn’t have enough room on the floor."

Adding 2,000 more square feet onto the existing court floor and installing air conditioning already are offering an immense amount of pay off.

Hood explains, "It's going to be the nicest arena in the country. You can’t tell right now, but there is enough places that they are putting a little bit of the finishes in, and it’s going to be outstanding. I think people are really going to like it."
