CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois head coach John Groce announced Friday the dismissal of junior forward Darius Paul.
Paul was sent from Illinois European trip after an arrest in Deauville, France. Paul is charged with public intoxication, vandalism, and resisting arrest. He was immediately suspended, with a promise to review his status once the rest of the team returned home.
“After further review of the situation, Darius has been dismissed from our team,” Groce said. “Although his playing days here are over, we are committed to helping him move forward.”
Paul was attempting a comeback to the Illinois men's basketball team, after serving a year-long suspension stemming from an April 2014 arrest in Champaign.
