IAMP and IDOA Partner to Donate Meat

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Association of Meat Processors (IAMP) will be donating products from its Meats Competition and display at the conclusion of the Illinois State Fair.

IAMP and the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) partnered to create a new format for the Meats Competition located in the new IDOA tent. Products from the display will be donated to the St. Martin de Porres Center in Springfield.

Over 170 pounds of different cured and smoked meats will be given to families in need. IAMP Executive Secretary Dianne Handsacker says the association is so fortunate to have the opportunity to provide food to these families.

The 2015 Illinois State Fair Meats Competition features products from several of the finest meat processing plants in Illinois. This year’s show featured ham, bacon, summer sausage and dried beef.

Specialty products such as jalapeno bacon, andouille sausage, beef jerky and venison snack sticks were also included in the display.

This year’s results are listed below:

  • Grand Champion Summer Sausage: Thrushwood Farms, Galesburg, IL
  • Grand Champion Processed Beef: AJ’s Lena Maid Meats, Lena, IL
  • Grand Champion Ham: Thrushwood Farms, Galesburg, IL
  • Grand Champion Bacon: Main St. Meat Co., Roscoe, IL
