USDA releases weekly crop report

ILLINOIS - In its weekly Illinois crop report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says corn harvest has started on a limited basis throughout the state.

USDA officials say corn condition in Illinois was rated at 12 percent excellent, 44 percent good, 29 percent fair, 10 percent poor, and five percent very poor.  The amount of mature corn in the fields was estimated to have reached three percent, which is eight points behind the five-year average.

Additionally, officials say soybean condition was rated nine percent excellent, 43 percent good, 30 percent fair, 13 percent poor, and five percent very poor.  The USDA also says pasture and range condition was rated at 13 percent excellent, 51 percent good, 30 percent fair, five percent poor, and one percent very poor.
