Illinois' First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Passes Inspection

Posted: Updated:

MARION - Illinois' first medical marijuana dispensary has passed its registration and inspection phase.

The dispensary, located in Southern Illinois, will be allowed to fully operate when medical marijuana becomes available. Named "Harbory", the dispensary is based in Marion.

Employees of any Illinois medical marijuana dispensary must be licensed under a different process prior to opening for business. More dispensaries are expected to be registered with the state on a rolling basis.

Illinois' medical marijuana pilot program was scheduled to begin a 4 year plan effective January of 2014. However, since no medical marijuana has actually been available to Illinois patients who need it, Governor Rauner signed new legislation that extends the expiration date of the program to four years from the date of the first dispensary becoming operational.
