Progress City Gears Up for Next Week's Farm Progress Show

Decatur - Not only is the Farm Progress Show the biggest agricultural trade show in the country, it's actually the biggest trade show of any kind.

In 2013 it encompassed 2.3 million square feet, and this year, an additional 400,000 square feet was added due to high demand from ag businesses.

"This is truly the epicenter of agriculture.  Most of it is new exhibitors and a real big part of that is UAV's, the drones as we may call them," said Farm Progress Show market leader Don Tourte.

Tourte also said that while the trade show's economic impact will be great for the city of Decatur and Macon County, it'll have far reaching impacts nationally and globally.

"For these companies, bringing people from all over the world and all of these different states they get to touch them, and that's why they bring their engineers and everything out here to talk about how is stuff made, but also give farmers the opportunity to tell the engineers what they like and what they don't like," Tourte added.

Among next week's highlights include live crop planting and harvest demonstrations to show off the changes in technology.
